The Product
SignScape is an AR enhanced boardgame that builds a community around learning ASL. Going hard of hearing is not an easy process, for those experiencing it, for those around them, and is often a difficult and lonely experience. With SignScape, the goal is to combine the fun of boardgames with ASL learning. You, your friends, family, those closest to you will learn ASL together, and be able to learn non-verbal communication skills in the process.

The Problem
Current ASL learning processes are outdated. Those wanting to learn are limited to tutors, boardgames and CDs from the 80s, digital tools that only focus on fingerspelling, and not the functional communication aspects.
Those going hard of hearing often exprience loneliness as the closest people around them continue to communicate verbally while they slowly lose touch and need assistance. What if we could make learning ASL a collaborative process? What if we could get our friends and family to learn ASL, without it feeling like a chore?

Research
Current ASL learning processes are outdated. Those wanting to learn are limited to tutors, boardgames and CDs from the 80s, digital tools that only focus on fingerspelling, and not the functional communication aspects.

Tech & Goals
AR breaks the limitations of the digital ASL tools that exist by providing a spatial understanding of gestures and movement. Using hand-tracking tech that are currently underdevelopment, in the near future, we can provide accurate feedback on ASL form and self-correct without needing a tutor. AR game cards will also allow updates to the game, with more vocab, mini-games, and quests to be developed and added continuously.

Branding
Taking inspiration from the boardgames of the 80s and 90s, we wanted to modernize our branding while retaining the unique graphic motifs from the era.
