Problem
In the recent decades, mental health issues are become more and more prevalant and recognized. The exact reasons for this rise are complex and multifaceted, but some contributing factors include the changing nature of work and social relationships, increased exposure to trauma and stress, and greater awareness and recognition of mental health issues.
We have narrowed the problems we are targeting with this speculative product:
1. The cost of accessing mental health
2. Communicative issues of finding a good fit with a therapist.
3. Stigmatization of seeking mental health care.
Ideation
The exploration into speculative technologies included looking at innovative tech in wearables, holographic technology and different manifestitions of representation in the future. The exploration also included a wholistic into the user journey, workflow, integration of healthcare professionals as a self sustaining system.
Speculative Technology
The research we looked at for this technology is based on a research on photorealistic reconstruction of visual texture from EEG signals in 2021. The idea is to combine the textures and its ability to multiply with secondary textures, with with the process texture mapping in 3D modelling.
If raw EEG data can be collected and reconstructed as textural image, each emotion can be assigned it’s individual emotional textural map. Compound maps can be achieved for complex emotions by multiplying these emotions together, which can then be mapped onto a 3 dimensional sphere, withs its peaks, valleys and terrain analyzed.
CMF Inspiration
The inspiration for this product is aimed directly at analogue products over the past decades that have makes both a strong visual and graphic statement, while highlighting the functionalities of physical interfaces.
Form Generation
From the CMF inspiration, the emphasis of interaction was focused on analogue components and stark physical interface to sway away the use of screens and streamline the learning curve of using this product. From form factor, stowing mechanisms, proportions, the final product combined the innovative mechanism of a ball mouse and large buttons and knobs as the main interation for our users.
